During his 25-year career, Jonathan has made words the cornerstone of his craft. From a college job writing about the trucking industry to more than two decades as a journalist, editor and publisher, McElvy’s passion for the words we use, the way we use them, and how they impact an audience has never wavered.
In 2012, McElvy found his second professional passion: Owning and operating media companies. For more than a decade, McElvy worked with hundreds of businesses all searching for the same thing – a better way of growing revenue through marketing. It was during this period that McElvy found a glaring hole in the marketing strategies of most companies.
“Too many businesses focus on reach and how many people will see their advertising. In fact, that’s the first question marketing directors ask,” McElvy said. “In all the meetings I’ve had with companies about their advertising plans, I’ve never had one person ask if the message would get results.”
As an award-winning writer, a successful business owner, and more than two decades of experience working with small and large companies, McElvy’s expertise in crafting the right message is rare. Whether it’s a C-Suite speech, prepping for media interviews, or working in partnership with marketing departments to analyze, craft and implement the right message, McElvy’s passion for words, the way we use them, and how they impact an audience does not waver.
McElvy, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., is married to Meghan McElvy, an energy litigation attorney in Houston. They have three children, Hank, Cal and Eleanor Bo (none of them were named after professional baseball players). He plays (at) golf, loves to grill, and it’s best you not bother him if the University of Alabama is playing football.
Charlotte found her passion for journalism as a teenager, and her career in print, broadcasting and communications has spanned more than a half-century as a storyteller. She has covered everything from local governments in California and Texas to national politics, natural and manmade disasters and phenomena, beloved and notorious personalities, and driven investigations into environmental and social threats. Her credits include field producing for ABC News Nightline With Ted Koppel and World News Tonight With Peter Jennings.
Charlotte has ventured to the “other side” to bring her intimate knowledge of media messaging and content to PR/marketing and strategic/crisis communications, serving as press secretary in presidential and U.S. Senate campaigns, working in the nonprofit sector, and as a strategic communications manager for the Houston public schools. In that capacity with one of the nation’s largest and most diverse districts, she helped lead the expansion of social media and digital outreach, stakeholder engagement, edited publications, and was part of district rebranding and high-level communications strategies that earned national honors.
Charlotte and her husband, Carlos, a former CBS News correspondent-turned-schoolteacher, live in a suburb of Houston with their teenage granddaughter.
